Swinging a black bat with his nickname "J-Rod" plastered all over it in Mariners green, Rodríguez crushed a 463-foot shot to left-center at Dodger Stadium for the first home run of the Derby. J-Rod heated up fast in his first Home Run Derby, crushing 14 home runs before calling timeout just over halfway through his round -- then adding 11 more to take his total to 25 before bonus time. Seven more home runs in bonus time earned Rodríguez a standing ovation from the Dodger Stadium crowd. As the higher seed, Soto got to sit back and watch Rodríguez set the mark to beat with 18 homers, one more than José Ramírez posted against him in the first round.

He had 10 before taking his timeout, putting himself in a great position to advance. He walked it off with his 18th blast just seconds before the end of regulation. Knowing he didn’t need to put up a massive total, Mancini looked comfortable as he swung his way to seven homers across his first minute and 21 seconds before calling time.
Sidan kunde inte hittas.
Soto started slow again, not hitting a homer until 45 seconds in, but then found another level with 10 homers in a span of 12 swings before taking his timeout. Soto quickly got the four he needed to lift the crown, tossing his bat after winning the 2022 T-Mobile Home Run Derby. At 23 years, 266 days old, Soto won just one day short of tying Juan González as the youngest winner in Derby history. The man to beat in the competition, Alonso started his quest for a three-peat against an intradivision rival in Acuña, who hit 19 home runs. Alonso was vibing early, bobbing his head to the music that filled Dodger Stadium.

ET on the two channels, with ESPN carrying the traditional broadcast and ESPN2 providing the "Statcast Edition." After falling to Pete Alonso in the semifinals of last year's Home Run Derby, Nationals' Juan Soto came back to win in 2022 after hitting 19 home runs in the final round to Mariners rookie Julio Rodriguez's 18. The full field of eight competitors for baseball’s big fly bonanza was a powerhouse group, but only one man could come out on top -- Pete Alonso, for his second straight win. The Home Run Derby will run through a bracket format and consist of three total rounds at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles. Alonso is the odds-on favorite to win the competition, which comes with a $1 million grand prize.

J-Ram didn't hit any 440-footers, but he added two more home runs in his extra 30 seconds to take his first-round total to 17. Major League Basebal's 2022 Home Run Derby is set for Monday night at Los Angeles' Dodger Stadium. Headlining the eight-slugger field is New York Mets star Pete Alonso, who is trying to become the first hitter ever to win three consecutive MLB Home Run Derbies (only Ken Griffey Jr. has three total Derby wins). Alonso prevailed in 2019 and last year (no All-Star events were held in 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic).
Kyle Schwarber, Corey Seager, Juan Soto, José Ramírez, Julio Rodríguez, Ronald Acuña Jr. and Albert Pujols make up the rest of the field. Eight Major League Baseball sluggers will compete Monday night for the title of 2022 Home Run Derby champion. LOS ANGELES -- Albert Pujols didn’t win, but for perhaps the first time in his career, that wasn’t at all the point. Pujols was eliminated in the semifinals of the 2022 T-Mobile Home Run Derby on Monday night, falling by a score to Nationals slugger and eventual winner Juan...

Coors Field is already a hitter's environment, and the baseballs used in the Derby this year will not be placed in a humidor beforehand. The T-Mobile Home Run Derby returned with a hard-hitting, high-flying, mile-high event. Tickets are listed by third-party sellers and may be above face value.
Looking to become only the fourth player in Derby history to win the event multiple times, the 2019 champion came out firing and set a Derby record for a first round with 35 dingers. He crushed 13 of those before a timeout at about the halfway mark -- at one point homering on nine straight swings. The damage included bombs of 514 and 512 feet that sent fans on the left-field concourse ducking for cover. Alonso went deep 25 times in regulation but wasn’t even close to being done, adding 10 more in one minute of bonus time. The Mets slugger walloped nine bombs of 475 feet or longer and didn’t even seem tired at the end.
LOS ANGELES -- Phillies outfielder Kyle Schwarber entered the T-Mobile Home Run Derby on Monday night as the top seed and one of its favorites. He fell victim to an upset for the ages -- but there's certainly no shame in falling to one of the sport's all-time legends. LOS ANGELES -- There was no three-Pete in the T-Mobile Home Run Derby. Pete Alonso’s bid to become the first slugger to win three straight Derby titles came up short Monday night at Dodger Stadium, as the Mets' first baseman was ousted in the semifinals by Julio Rodríguez, the Mariners’... Any round ending in a tie will be decided by a 60-second "swing off" with no time outs or bonus time. ET on both ESPN and ESPN2 with "Baseball Tonight" and "Baseball Tonight, Statcast Edition," respectively.

Each contestant has three minutes in the first and second rounds to hit as many home runs as he can. Each batter gets one one 45-second timeout in each of the regulation periods (i.e., not during any bonus time that's added on). Any tie in any round will be broken by a 60-second "swing off." The winner receives a $1 million prize.
That led to another swing-off, this one featuring three swings for each guy. Soto was perfect, going three-for-three, including a 506-foot blast. Making a return to the stadium he used to call home, Seager had a tough act to follow after Rodríguez crushed 32 home runs to lead off the Derby. With his dad, Jeffrey, throwing to him, Seager earned bonus time early with two of his first four homers going more than 440 feet. Seager got into a groove once he came back, blasting 10 more homers to run his total to 20 before bonus time. He couldn’t overcome the deficit, though, ending with 24 home runs.
Once again, Mancini looked comfortable, drilling eight homers in the first minute, including a 490-foot drive that secured one minute of bonus time. He would go on to add shots of 485, 488, 481 and 475 while reaching 16 in regulation. Mancini started hot in bonus time and while he hit a rut in the final 40 seconds or so, one final blast at the buzzer got him to 22. Soto started hot, hitting five homers in his first seven swings, including two of 440 feet or longer.
He went deep six times in extras, going 503 and 505 feet on the last two fence-clearers, but that stillwasn’t enough; he and Soto were tied at 28 homers, and a three-swing swing-off was needed. After Soto went deep on all three of his swings, Ohtani caught his breath and stepped back in one last time. He couldn't get his first swing over the fence, though, and just like that … his night was over. In his quest to become the first switch-hitter to win a Home Run Derby outright, Ramírez batted righty at Dodger Stadium -- even though he's hit a lot more home runs as a lefty in his MLB career. He finally found his groove late in the round, reaching 15 home runs despite having only four when he called his timeout.
You had a two-time defending champion Pete Alonso gunning for the event's all-time king, Ken Griffey Jr. You had a future Hall of Famer, Albert Pujols , giving it one more shot and delighting the crowd... While everyone else faltered as the rounds went on, Soto got stronger. He finished regulation in the finals with three home runs, whereas the rest of the field just couldn't keep pace as the rounds drew on. Pete Alonso is looking to become the first player in big league history to win the event in three consecutive seasons.
